Khao Sok + Cheow Lan – Day tour
Khao Sok in Southern Thailand is an amazing place. It is covered by the oldest evergreen rain forest in the world huge limestone mountains shooting straight up in the air, deep valleys, breathtaking lakes, exciting caves, wild animals and much more.
Khao Sok is perfectly situated on the mainland between Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak, and Koh Samui, the most popular destinations in Southern Thailand. It is a fantastic place to go on vacation. Close and personal elephant encounters, jungle trekking on foot, canoeing and Truck Safaris are all possible activities, which will give you the experience of a lifetime. We also recommend tours to visit various locations in Khao Sok.
Khao Sok Lake is locally known as Cheow Larn Lake (occasionally spelled Cheow Lan Lake – without the ‘r’). It is a stunning place to visit, lying in an ancient rainforest, and is the location of some of the most unique accommodation in Khao Sok including floating hotels.
Khao Sok Lake stretches over an area of 165 km2 within the 739 km2 park. The water is a beautiful emerald color, which further adds to the vibrant greens of the rainforest. The lake is vast and is dotted with over one hundred limestone karsts which jut up from the still water, remnants of what were once mountain peaks.
Since its construction in 1987, Cheow Larn Lake has escaped undisturbed by the pollution that comes with industrialization and has been kept protected by the communities and organizations that value both its beauty, and its function. The lake is also home to a variety of freshwater fish, making it a valuable source of food for the local bird population, which number as many as 311 different species.
Cheow Larn Lake is one of the many stunning elements that make up Khao Sok National Park. The scenery of towering limestone cliffs, lush rainforest, and of course the emerald lake, as well as the vast array of wild mammals, amphibians, birds and insects, create a destination like no other.
The forest is home to many large mammals including clouded leopards, tigers, wild elephants, gaurs, tapir, Malayan sun bears, and gibbons, just to name a few! While these animals are frequently spotted, we do not interfere with their habitat or try to artificially attract them to the area, so sightings always depend on the luck of the day – as with all wildlife.
